Dry Eyes? You May Need LipiFlow Thermal Pulsation Treatment
Dry Eyes are a common problem and could occur due to various reasons. Contact lens wearers are prone to this problem, as are those who suffer from Blepharitis (lower eyelid inflammation). LipiFlow thermal pulsation offers an effective treatment that targets the Meibomian glands. This ensures that the tears produced have oil content that prevents them from drying up.
How is the Treatment Carried Out?
LipiFlow makes use of thermal pulsation that clears any obstructions in the Meibomian glands. This helps in allowing oil secretion that ensures good tear quality to prevent dry eyes. This is a simple outpatient procedure that is done under local anesthesia. The device is placed on the eye and protects the cornea from heat while delivering pulses of heat to the glands.
During the procedure, up to 42.5 degrees Celsius temperature is delivered to the eyelids. The device massages the eyelids from the outer side to ensure the best results. The entire procedure takes around 10 to 12 minutes. On completion of the procedure, the patient would be able to experience significant relief from dry eye symptoms within a couple of weeks. Tear film quality will prevent quick evaporation. The heat treatment also reduces inflammation around the eyelids. Those with severe symptoms may be required to repeat the treatment after 9 to 12 months.
LipiFlow is a non-invasive, safe, and effective treatment for dry eyes that can provide long-lasting relief.
